The Automobile Club of Mexico (ANA) has disposed of one of Mexico City’s last polluting taxis to mark the nationwide launch of Make Cars Green.

The Carman Vintage association, alongside the Mexico City government and the ANA, sent the 1990 model VW Beatle, previously used as a city taxi, to the 2008 Paris World Motor Show, where an entire pavilion was devoted to displaying 40 taxis from around the world. This initiative is part of a larger programme taking place in Mexico, which aims to substitute older, polluting taxis with more recent models with very low-level emissions.

Named “The Tourist”, displaying stickers of the FIA’s ‘Make Cars Green Campaign’, the green-coloured vehicle has been used to demonstrate ANA’s move towards new eco-friendly vehicles in conjunction with the launch of the FIA’s campaign in the country.

The taxi will next be transported to Lyon in December where it will be exhibited in the Pollutec International Show, which will be devoted to the environment. Its final destination will be the Technological Museum of Berlin, where it will remain as a permanent exhibit.
