The Automobile Club of Chile (ACCHI) has announced the signing of an agreement with Bridgestone that aims to promote environmental awareness to motorists from the start of their driving experience. New drivers who pass through the ACCHI driving schools will be educated on environmental issues in order to help make Chile’s roads both greener and safer. Drivers will become more aware of the environment through the direct promotion of the Make Cars Green ‘10Points for Greener Motoring’ in the club’s driving schools. This will reach 50,000 motorists, including beginners and advanced drivers, who pass through the schools annually.
As part of the agreement, Bridgestone has also undertaken to test and review the state of tyres, no matter the brand, of all Chilean motorists in its specialised care centres known as ‘Family Channel’. If needed, they will adjust the tyre pressures free of charge to their optimal green and safe level. Francisco Pujado, Marketing Manager for Bridgestone Chile, said: “With this campaign, not only are we making motorists aware of the environmental impact of poorly inflated tyres, but we are also helping the ecosystem and saving fuel.”
The partnership was made possible thanks to support from FIA Region IV. It follows new data recently revealed by Bridgestone from a survey involving 6,000 vehicles across six countries in Latin America. The data shows that due to underinflated tyres, 660 million litres of fuel are wasted every year, equating to $645 million and 1.5 billion kg of carbon dioxide. In Chile alone, this represents over 72 million kg of CO2.
