Automovil Club Dominicano (ACD) has taken the Make Cars Green campaign to the highest levels in the country.
The Club met with Victor Díaz Rúa, the Dominican Republic’s Secretary of State for Public Works and Communications, to discuss ecological issues and to brief him on the activities it has undertaken to increase motorists' awareness about the benefits of greener driving.
The club used the opportunity to explain the importance of the Make Cars Green declaration and the continued educational efforts that are necessary to keep the public informed of ways they can drive greener.
The ACD outlined its plans for 2009 to the Secretary of State, which included promoting the Make Cars Green campaign at national toll outlets, bridges and roads, and the club’s plans to increase the strong support it has already received from motorists across the country.
As a result, Díaz Rúa has agreed to implement several ecological measures with regards to some of the national upcoming road construction projects. He also informed the ACD of the green measures which had been taken into account when constructing the recently completed Santo Domingo-Samanda road.
As this road is a key route to the resorts of Boca Chica and Santo Domingo and acts as a route to the Catey airport in Samaná it receives much traffic. During its construction consideration was given to the environmental impact the route would have on the famous Los Haitises (tropical water holes) and the Cordillera Samaná mountain range.
