Following the success of the Make Cars Green tyre at the Japanese Grand Prix, Bridgestone has decided to make the Make Cars Green markings a permanent feature of the tyres they supply to all teams competing in the FIA Formula One World Championship.

As both Formula One’s single tyre manufacturer and the global partner of the Make Cars Green Campaign, Bridgestone is in a unique position to promote the campaign messages to millions of people worldwide. In 2009, it will use green coloured bands around its tyres' sidewalls to differentiate between the two compounds the teams have to use at each race this year.

The different tyres were previously denoted by a white line in the rubber's grooves, but the return of slicks for 2009 makes this impossible, so the markings will appear on the tyre sidewalls instead.

By using the green band, Bridgestone will help to promote the Make Car Green campaign to Formula One’s 350 million viewers worldwide, utilising the media pull of motor sport to highlight mobility messages. This highly visible Make Cars Green promotion by Bridgestone will also help clubs promoting Make Cars Green in their local market, allowing them to link into events taking place in their own Regions.
